Your Home at the Center of NYC’s Winter Wonderland
December 16, 2016
Many of New York City’s most recognized and celebrated winter traditions are located just steps from the luxury apartments at Atlas New York. Whether you’re taking in a leisurely couples-skate at the Rockefeller Center ice rink, perusing the Bryant Park holiday boutiques, or marveling at the spectacle of the Rockettes kick line at Radio City Music Hall, the Atlas New York Apartments near Bryant Park are the perfect place to start your adventures in New York’s holiday wonderland.
No NYC winter experience is complete without a visit to the iconic Rockefeller Center, where you can grab a cup of hot chocolate and gaze up at the splendor of its iconic Christmas tree, a NYC tradition since 1933. Between 70 and 100 feet tall, the tree has formed the winter backdrop for everything from the Today Show to the blockbuster movie Elf. While the lighting of the 45,000 LEDs and coming to life of the twinkling 550-pound Swarovski star took place on November 30th, the tree will remain in this festive mode through January 7, 2017. And if you’re looking for an intimate spot for a couple’s skate, there’s no better setting for romance than under the lights at the rink at Rockefeller Center.
For those who wish to dazzle the crowd with their Biellmann spin or who are just looking for a bigger space to cut a few figure eights, it’s a stroll of only two blocks from the cozy confines of your Bryant Park rental to check out the Winter Village at Bryant Park, which is also home to NYC’s only free ice skating rink. Twice the size of Rockefeller Center’s, the Bryant Park rink forms the centerpiece of the Winter Village and hosts numerous shows and events throughout the season. While there, take a break from the ice and meander your way through the 125+ boutique-style shops situated among Bryant Park’s allées. Open through January 2 , the shops offer an eclectic assortment of local food, jewelry, clothing, and other unique goods that might just make the perfect holiday gift. As you wander, don’t forget to contemplate that the entire park sits atop an underground facility housing the New York Public Library’s research collection.
Spend an evening of festive holiday excitement at Radio City Music Hall, home to the “Christmas Spectacular,” which stars the world-renowned Rockettes. The grandeur of Radio City’s Art Deco lobby will immediately transport you back to the first “Spectacular” in 1933, and then the show’s 140 performers will dazzle you with 90 minutes of original music and magical dancing—all of which builds up to the historically famous finale: the eye-high leg kick line. This precision dance troupe has called Radio City Music Hall home since 1932, and you can find them performing five shows a day for seven days a week during the Christmas season.
The Atlas apartments in NoMad are the perfect center for your festive season, located steps from all the action in the greatest city in the world, at the most wonderful time of the year.
